Creating Imaginative and Satisfying Solutions
Bob Steinberg has a 39-year history of resolving legal disputes. During the last 21 years in private practice, Mr. Steinberg established a record of successfully resolving mediations with extraordinary efficiency. In each case, Mr. Steinberg resolved the parties’ differences and saved substantial expenses, attorney fees, discovery costs, expert witness costs, and appeal costs. Most importantly, the parties eliminated the risk of losing the case and the anxiety and business interruption associated with ongoing litigation.
From 1996 to the present in private practice, Mr. Steinberg conducted hundreds of professional mediations in addition to his litigation law practice and his service as an expert witness. Each mediation was subject to a strict privacy and confidentiality agreement. Most of the cases mediated were filed in state and federal courts in Ohio and other states. Some mediations involved legal disputes that had not yet been filed in court. In virtually all of these cases, Mr. Steinberg was able to resolve the dispute and arrive at a settlement agreement signed by the parties and enforceable in court. The vast majority of mediations were resolved within one day. A small number of mediations were resolved after follow-up contact by Mr. Steinberg. Among other matters, these professional mediations involved derivative investments, insurance coverage, employment discrimination, business partnership disputes, various personal injury issues including medical malpractice, contract disputes and business disputes.
As a United States Magistrate Judge in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, Judge Steinberg conducted mediations and settlement conferences in hundreds of cases during his eighteen-year judicial tenure. These cases involved a wide variety of legal issues, including but not limited to patent law, intellectual property, insurance coverage, personal injury cases of all types, employment discrimination, antitrust law, contract law, admiralty, FELA matters, ERISA matters, and many other subjects.
Bob Steinberg’s 46 years of legal experience gives him a unique perspective to achieve resolutions to legal disputes. As a federal prosecutor, judge and trial lawyer dealing with complex litigation and civil cases, he represented a wide array of clients; both individuals and organizations, and worked for both the defense and the plaintiff’s side.
Mr. Steinberg communicates well with the mediation attorneys and their clients. He is result oriented, but in a courteous and polite manner. On the other hand, he does not merely play the role of a messenger carrying offers and counteroffers back and forth to the parties. Nor does he conduct mediations according to a scholastic formula. His approach is practical, exploring unique alternatives and actively moving the proceedings along to an expeditious conclusion, saving the parties time and money.
He is able to bridge the gap between the parties by creating imaginative and satisfying solutions. By analyzing the strengths and weaknesses of each party’s position and advising them of the risks and probable results of litigation based on his years of judicial and litigation experience, he guides the parties to a fair resolution of their dispute.
During 2013 and 2014, Mr. Steinberg presented a number of seminars to the Ohio Bar Association and The American Inns of Court on mediation topics. He was elected Chair of the Federal Courts and Practice Committee of the Ohio Bar Association for 2014-2015.
